Itineraries

Day 1

Home . Milan

Destination Home . Milan Meals included Hotel 4 . Worldhotel Cristoforo Colombo, or similar Benvenuto! You’ll arrive in Milan in the evening and be met at the airport to be transferred to the hotel. The night is yours to rest and relax.

Day 2

Milan

Destination Milan Meals included Breakfast, Dinner Hotel 4 . Worldhotel Cristoforo Colombo, or similar We’ll see the sights of Milan this morning on a three-hour guided tour. Some from the coach, some on foot, you’ll be able to admire the most important sites of Milan like the Milan Cathedral, La Scala Opera House and the gardens of Sforza Castle. This grand, iconic cathedral – with a cool 3400 statues and 135 gargoyles – took more than six centuries to finish and is arguably Milan’s most famous landmark. You’ll see Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, just beside the cathedral, an opulent glass-domed arcade that almost seems too grand to be a shopping centre. But it is. One of the oldest in the world, it feels more like a palace. It’s mainly high-end retailers here – after all, Milan is one of the world’s fashion capitals! The rest of the day is free time until dinner. Behind Sforzesco Castle, you’ll find Parco Sempione, a beautiful park to relax. It’s home to Torre Branca, an observation tower standing at nearly 109 metres high that offers dazzling views over the city, and even to the Alps and the Apennines on a clear day. Piazza del Duomo is the central piazza in Milan. It’s a great place to watch the locals going about their day. This huge, lively open space is home to the cathedral and the Royal Palace of Milan. For something quieter, wander through the Piazza dei Mercanti, once the centre of Milan during the Middle Ages and now a charming square with a number of statues and monuments. As you’ve already discovered, Milan is home to stunning churches and cathedrals. Stop by the Basilica of San Lorenzo, one of the oldest in the city, or the Church of Sant’Ambrogio, founded in 386 by the city’s patron saint, St. Ambrose. It’s a great display of Romanesque architecture. Tonight you’ll join your guide and the rest of your group for a three-course welcome dinner at a restaurant in Milan’s historical city centre.

Day 3

Milan . Como

Destination Milan . Como Meals included Breakfast Hotel 4 . Hotel Como, or similar We’ll leave for Como this morning, a renowned tourist destination. On the Italian-Swiss border, Como is famous for its beautiful scenery, with Lake Como the jewel in its crown, surrounded by green hills. On arrival we’ll have a three-hour sightseeing tour of Como and the famed lake. You’ll visit the historic city centre and its medieval and narrow streets, including the basilica and Porta Torre, the imposing southern gate in Como’s defensive walls. After the walk, you’ll board a private boat from Piazza Cavour and enjoy a one-hour cruise of the lake to admire the landscapes and elegant villas. There is no better way to experience the beauty of Lake Como. The rest of the afternoon and evening are free. Como is easy to explore on foot, with a walk around the lakefront a great chance to take photos. If you feel like getting a better view of this picturesque area, there is a funicular (cable car) that scales the mountain in seven minutes to arrive at the hilltop village of Brunate. You can take in the magnificent views of the town and lake and if you’re feeling adventurous, a two-hour hike will take you to the summit of Monte Boletto.

Day 4

Como

Destination Como Meals included Breakfast Hotel 4 . Hotel Como, or similar It’s a free day in beautiful Como today. If you feel like shopping, you’ll find plenty of options, from big brands to small boutiques and everything in between. Como has a rich history in silk manufacturing so you’ll find a bounty of quality silk products, like scarves and ties. The traditional Mercato Coperto (covered market) is a great way to see how the locals shop for food and to pick up items for a picnic.

Day 5

Como . Venice

Destination Como . Venice Meals included Breakfast Hotel 4 . Hotel Giorgione, or similar We’re off to Venice today. On the way we’ll stop in Verona for a two-hour sightseeing tour. We’ll walk through the historical city centre including Piazza Bra, the outside of the Arena di Verona and the Scaliger Tombs. Verona is known for being the setting of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet so of course we’ll visit Casa di Giulietta (entrance included) and Romeo’s House (the exterior). You’ll also see the gorgeous square Piazza delle Erbe, which stands on the site of the Roman forum. On the north side of the square, you’ll see the ancient clock tower Torre del Gardello and on the opposite side, the watchtower Torre dei Lamberti, which sits 84 metres high. You’ll have free time for lunch in Verona before we leave for Venice. Upon arrival, we’ll board private water taxis to transfer to the hotel. The rest of the day is free for you to explore this enchanting city. Built on more than 100 small islands in a lagoon in the Adriatic Sea, romantic Venice has no roads – just canals, including its famed Grand Canal thoroughfare. Given its unique architectural and cultural heritage, the city and its lagoon are a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Day 6

Venice

Destination Venice Meals included Breakfast Hotel 4 . Hotel Giorgione, or similar After breakfast, your guide will take you on a two-hour tour of Venice’s sights. You’ll visit famous gathering place St. Mark’s Square (Piazza San Marco) with the basilica, easily one of the most recognisable churches in the world. Admire its Italian Byzantine architecture, golden mosaics and magnificent golden altarpiece. You’ll also visit Torre dell’Orologio, Doge’s Palace and Rialto Bridge, a Venice icon and tourist favourite for photos. You have the rest of the day free. Venice can seem like a maze but is a lovely city to just wander. Make your way through its charming little streets and passageways, along the canals, through its bustling squares. Sip coffee in St. Mark’s Square, perfect for people watching, and admire the ornate buildings that frame the piazza. Of course, a boat cruise is a must-do. You can relax in a gondola as you’re rowed along the Grand Canal and under the stone-arch Rialto Bridge, admiring the grand palaces lining the canal. Be sure to visit Harry’s Bar, the birthplace of the much-loved Italian cocktail, the bellini. You’re in good company – Ernest Hemingway was a regular.

Day 7

Venice

Destination Venice Meals included Breakfast Hotel 4 . Hotel Giorgione, or similar After breakfast, you’ll meet your private vaporetto for a full-day excursion of Venice islands. You’ll stop at the charming lagoon island Murano, known for its glass production, and visit a glass factory. You’ll see Burano, a small fishing village famous for its coloured houses and lace production, and peaceful Torcello, where you’ll visit the Torcello Cathedral (entrance included). You’ll return to Venice in the late afternoon and the rest of the night is yours to relax or see more of this beautiful city.
