Inhabited since the Paleolithic period by the indigenous Berbers, Morocco has gone through many periods of occupation, from the Romans to the Arabs and most recently, the French. Remnants of its storied past are scattered across the country, with Islamic-style mosques beside bright, art-deco buildings and locals fluent in both French and Arabic. Itineraries

Day 1

Home . Casablanca

Meals included Hotel N/A Today begins the adventure of a lifetime as you depart for Morocco.

Day 2

Casablanca

Destination Casablanca Meals included Hotel 4 . Hotel Barcelo Casablanca, or similar Welcome to Morocco! Upon arrival at the airport, you will be met and transferred to your hotel. Modelled after the French city of Marseille, Casablanca is the commercial hub of Morocco. This busy port city is famous for its art deco buildings and the modern-day masterpiece, the Hassan II Mosque. It took more than seven years to build – it’s the second largest mosque in the world and open to the public for guided tours. Check-in at the hotel begins after midday, and there will be a welcome meeting with your tour leader this evening.

Day 3

Casablanca

Destination Casablanca Meals included Breakfast Hotel 4 . Hotel Barcelo Casablanca, or similar This morning, enjoy an orientation walking tour of Casablanca with your tour leader. The rest of the day is yours to relax or explore. A pleasant way to spend the day in Casablanca is to wander the old medina and the city walls, then jump in a taxi to visit the Quartiers Habous, the new medina. A medina is the historic heart of a city. Shops, restaurants, markets and homes line the twisting and turning streets. The old medina is brimming with history, with narrow alleyways and remnants of old city walls and forts. It’s still a bustling hub of activity, with much of this area a busy bazaar where you can shop for leather goods, oils, linens and spices. Stop at a cafe and watch the locals go about their day. Finish the day with a walk along the beachfront Corniche, watching the locals play football on the beach, or take it easy with a glass of sweet mint tea in one of the many great cafes. OPTIONAL TOUR - GUIDED VISIT OF HASSAN II MOSQUE Enjoy a guided tour of Africa's largest mosque, which can hold over 100,000 worshippers at one time. Completed in 1993, it's dramatic setting on the ocean provides a striking backdrop to the bustling city of Casablanca.

Day 4

Casablanca . Rabat . Tangier

Destination Casablanca . Rabat . Tangier Meals included Breakfast Hotel 4 . Kenzi Solazur Tangier, or similar Today we’ll head to the historical town of Rabat. Rabat’s history is long, having been host to Roman settlements, pirates and more recently the Moroccan parliament. It contains numerous fine Arab monuments, some dating from the 10th to 15th century Almohad and Marinid dynasties, and others that are far older. Continue to the coastal town of Tangier, Europe’s gateway to Africa. Being just a short boat ride from Spain, it boasts an interesting mix of African and European influences. When you arrive in Tangier, the rest of the day is yours. Its medina, a star attraction, is everything you’d expect – lively, with the typical narrow, labyrinthe-like alleyways of shops, teahouses and homes. A great place to people watch is the Grand Socco, a large square at the main entrance of the medina and a popular meeting place. You might visit the ancient kasbah, located high on a hill with pretty ocean views. The old Sultan’s palace (built in the 17th century) lies within these high walls. The Kasbah Museum is a great place to learn about Morocco’s tumultuous, complicated history.

Day 5

Tangier . Chefchaouen . Meknes

Destination Tangier . Chefchaouen . Meknes Meals included Breakfast Hotel 4 . Hôtel Tafilalet & Spa, or similar After breakfast we’ll travel to Chefchaouen, or the blue city, the centre of a mountainous agricultural region. On arrival, enjoy an orientation walking tour with your leader. Set against a wide valley and nestled between two peaks in the stunning Rif Mountains, Chefchaouen may take you by surprise. It’s picture perfect, with striking blue and whitewashed houses, red-tiled roofs and artistic doorways. Its small but authentic medina has been lovingly cared for and the walled fortress of the kasbah provides a haven in the heart of the city. Wander the tranquil gardens and enjoy the views over the valley from the tower. After an optional lunch, we’ll continue to Meknes, the sixth largest city in the kingdom and former capital of Morocco.

Day 6

Meknes . Volubilis . Fes

Destination Meknes . Volubilis . Fes Meals included Breakfast Hotel 5 . Hotel Les Merinides, or similar After breakfast, join your local guide to discover the charming streets of Meknes’ medina – the old walled section of the city. We’ll continue to the ruins of Volubilis. Volubilis was once a provincial Roman capital, the southernmost settlement, and the remains make an undeniably impressive sight. Volubilis is the foremost Roman site in Morocco and was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997. It’s exceptionally well preserved and most of the city is still unexcavated. Upon arrival, meet your local guide for a tour of Volubilis. After imagining Volubilis as the bustling city it once was, we’ll continue onto the living museum of Fes, your home for the next two nights. Often referred to as the country’s cultural capital, or the spiritual heart of Morocco, Fes was once one of the world’s great centres of education and culture, both Islamic and Jewish. OPTIONAL TOUR - HOME-COOKED DINNER WITH A MOROCCAN FAMILY Tonight, visit a local family who will serve up some authentic Moroccan dishes for you to sample. In between bites of delicious food and sips of Moroccan tea, you’ll learn more about Moroccan hospitality and culture. OPTIONAL TOUR - MOROCCAN HAMMAM EXPERIENCE A traditional bathhouse, the hammam is an ancient and integral part of Moroccan life. At the heart of Marrakech medina, enjoy a rejuvenating moment at a Moroccan riad dedicated to relaxation. Enjoy a private hammam beldi, or 'traditional bath', which includes a Moroccan black soap exfoliation treatment.

Day 7

Fes

Destination Fes Meals included Breakfast Hotel 5 . Hotel Les Merinides, or similar This morning, your local guide will take you on a tour of the old medina of Fes. Walk in the narrow maze-like streets of the city passing artisans at work, vendors selling leather and oils, and locals gathering to eat, shop and pray. The winding paths – no cars allowed, instead you’ll see donkeys – seem to go on forever in this 540-acre medina. Explore the old city, stop by Fes’ famous tanneries and pass by the oldest university of the world, founded by a Moroccan Muslim woman, Fatima al-Fihria. The rest of the day is free time.

Day 8

Fes . Erfoud

Destination Fes . Erfoud Meals included Breakfast, Dinner Hotel 4 . Kasbah Hôtel Xaluca Arfoud, or similar We’ll leave the intensity of the city behind for the simplicity of the scenic high Atlas Mountains to Erfoud, a city known as the desert gate given its location on the edge of the Sahara. It’s approximately a seven hour drive south, inland through a variety of spectacular scenery – fertile valleys, cedar and pine forests and barren, rocky landscapes and flat desert. En route we’ll stop at Ifrane, the Switzerland of Morocco, located at an altitude of 5460 feet above sea level in the Middle Atlas region. It’s green and fresh, boasting beautiful landscapes, lakes and streams. We’ll continue to Midelt, a market town originally built as a base for mining in the area. It’s the perfect spot to break up the journey to the Sahara. Surrounded by natural wonders, like imposing Mount Ayachi looming over the town, it’s a refreshing place to take a breath and relax.

Day 9

Erfoud . Ouarzazate

Destination Erfoud . Ouarzazate Meals included Breakfast, Dinner Hotel 4 . Hôtel Farah Aljanoub, or similar After breakfast we’ll head for beautiful Todra Gorge, a massive trench that rises over 250 metres to form one of the most dramatic and spectacular natural sights in Morocco. Enjoy lunch before continuing to Ouarzazate, where productions such as Lawrence of Arabia, The Sheltering Sky and Black Hawk Down were filmed. This charming village, once an old military enclave, is now home to two movie studios. OPTIONAL TOUR - ATLAS MOVIE STUDIOS Spend the day like a movie star on the world's largest film set. Over the years, Ouarzazate has served as a shooting location for Alexander the Great, Black Hawk Down, Kingdom of Heaven, Babel, The Mummy (1999), Star Wars (1977), The Living Daylights (1987), Martin Scorsese’s Kundun (1997), and many others, including Ridley Scott’s epic Gladiator (2000). Many of the film sets remain scattered around the desert today.

Day 10

Ouarzazate . Marrakech

Destination Ouarzazate . Marrakech Meals included Breakfast Hotel 5 . Opera Plaza Hôtel Marrakech, or similar After breakfast we’ll travel to the ancient ksar of Ait Benhaddou – you may recognise this from Game of Thrones. Centuries ago, this was an important stop for caravans carrying salt across the Sahara. Today, this UNESCO World Heritage Site remains as a striking example of southern Morocco architecture. Enjoy the earthen clay architecture on your walking tour of the kasbah, before the drive out to Marrakech. An ancient, exotic city wrapped in European modernity, Marrakech is a feast for the senses. Be enticed by the alluring scents and brilliant colours of the spice markets, the sounds of the musicians, the rich folds of carpets, delectable foods, acrobats and perfumed gardens. Marrakech won’t disappoint – it’s eclectic, beautiful and a modern fusion of Moroccan and international culture. When we arrive, the rest of the day is yours. You may like to visit famous Jemaa el-Fnaa, the main square of Marrakech in the heart of the medina. It’s big and frantic, with scores of people shopping, eating, getting henna tattoos and watching snake charmers. Packed with locals and tourists alike, it’s certainly memorable. OPTIONAL TOUR - A TASTE OF MARRAKECH TOUR Wander through the souks of Marrakesh sampling olives, dried fruits, nuts, and pastries on this foodie tour of the bustling city.

Day 11

Marrakech

Destination Marrakech Meals included Breakfast Hotel 5 . Opera Plaza Hôtel Marrakech, or similar After breakfast, your local guide will take you on a morning tour of the old medina, through the bustling souks that are the lifeblood flowing through the city. This is the trading centre of the city and the sights, sounds and fragrant smells are almost overwhelming. The walls surrounding the medina, made of a distinct orange-red clay and chalk, were built in the 12th century. Stop by the Koutoubia Mosque; its famous minaret is the prototype for others of its kind around the world, including La Giralda in Seville. The mosque is surrounded by beautiful gardens. Then walk back through the streets of the old medina to the Jemaa el-Fnaa. The rest of the day is free to explore further or shop in the bazaar. No doubt you’ve already enjoyed many Moroccan delicacies, like aromatic tajines, couscous and the street food favourite pastilla. Moroccan food is as exciting as you’d imagine – spicy, full-flavoured and often boasting a mix of contrasting textures and flavours. You’ll find street vendors and waiters at restaurants all eager – almost too eager – to win your custom. Make like a local and sip sweet mint tea at a cafe as you watch the world go by. OPTIONAL TOUR - COOKING CLASS AT LA MAISON ARABE Learn the art of making chicken tagine and baking fresh Moroccan bread under the expert guidance of a dada (traditional Moroccan cook) on this half-day workshop. You'll use modern equipment found in everyday kitchens at the beautifully decorated La Maison Arabe, and dine on the meal you've prepared at the end.

Day 12

Marrakech . Essaouira

Destination Marrakech . Essaouira Meals included Breakfast Hotel 4 . Hôtel Coté Océan Mogador, or similar This morning we’ll travel the Atlantic coast to the old fishing town of Essaouira, a city where the medina brushes up against the Atlantic Ocean. A popular beach destination for tourists, it’s still retained its relaxed atmosphere and is the perfect place for you to catch your breath after the frenetic pace of Marrakech. The name means ‘little picture’ in Arabic and you’ll see why – sandstone walkways contrast with whitewashed houses, bright blue sky and the sand of the surrounding beaches and dunes. On arrival, the rest of the day is free. You might like to visit the fish market, where you can enjoy today’s catch freshly cooked for you. Wander the harbour and watch the fishermen at work on the traditional blue wooden boats.

Day 13

Essaouira

Destination Essaouira Meals included Breakfast Hotel 4 . Hôtel Coté Océan Mogador, or similar Today is a free day for you to explore more of Essaouira at your own pace. Being a charming and vibrant resort town, you’ll find no shortage of dining options, live music, boutiques and art galleries. Water sports are popular here, especially windsurfing and kitesurfing given the gusty winds. Essaouira’s medina is small which means you are less likely to get lost! OPTIONAL TOUR - HORSE RIDING IN ESSAOUIRA Gallop your way across wide beaches, forests and dunes on this two-hour horse riding adventure. DAY 14 Destination Essaouira . Home Meals included Breakfast Hotel N/A Enjoy one last delicious Moroccan breakfast this morning before your adventure comes to an end. This particular tour is categorised as a “Superior":

Superior – Active Tour: A very good level of fitness and mobility is required for you to enjoy all aspects of the itinerary, as this is considered a fast-paced tour. While there is some free time scheduled either in the morning or afternoon, there are many full days of sightseeing with minimal rest and some early starts. A friendly reminder that tipping is not included in your package. At the commencement of your tour, you will be asked to provide tipping to your guide towards a ‘kitty’, which is then used towards the guide tipping for the services of helpers, hotel staff, restaurants and airport porterage. We recommend AUD$3 per person, per day, to be paid in local currency. Please note that this tipping is not for the guide or driver, merely for the guide to tip the services of other local workers during your tour. While not made compulsory, if you choose not to contribute to the kitty it means that the guide is tipping for these services out of their own pocket. Your cooperation in this instance is most appreciated.

Further, tips for your guide and driver will be collected at the conclusion of their services. To remove the uncertainty and stress of not knowing how much is appropriate to tip we recommend AUD$6-10 per person per day for your guide and AUD$3-5 per person per day for your driver to be paid in local currency. The amount you wish to contribute is dependent on the services received and at the complete discretion of the guest. Thank you for your understanding.

Any other tipping, such as tips for the camera and video fees, bathroom attendants or hotel porters that are taking luggage to your room, is at your discretion as are gratuities for additional requested special services. We encourage passengers to have a supply of small denominations of local currency to distribute for personal tipping.

All vouchers and tickets issued are subjected to the terms and conditions specified by the supplier and all services are subjected to the laws of the country where the services are provided.

Unforeseeable circumstances such as force majeure, adverse weather, flight rescheduling, hotel overbooking and faults with transportation or road conditions may also have an effect on the tour itinerary after the commencement date. Any decision made in respect of tour services by independent suppliers/operators or airlines to re-route or amend the itinerary due to any of the above or similar circumstances is at the discretion of the tour service provider and Tripmia Travel and Tours shall not be liable for any claim whatsoever arising from such events. We strongly urge all customers to undertake a high level of personal responsibility in order to ensure that possessions, equipment and personal documents are closely monitored and protected at all times. We also strongly advise all customers to purchase appropriate travel insurance to protect you from financial loss and personal injuries in the event of an emergency.

You acknowledge and agree that there are inherent risks involved in participating in the tour, including without limitation possible contact with native flora/fauna, local residents, unforeseen events and travel in remote locations.

By making a booking, you agree to accept all risks associated with the tour. You agree to unconditionally release us from, all liability, including without limitation in contract and in tort, for any cause or action, including any injury, damage, loss, cost, delay, additional expense or inconvenience caused directly or indirectly as a result of the inherent risks associated with the tour, or any force majeure events or other events which are beyond our control, including but not limited to war, civil disobedience, terrorism, insurrection, accident, explosion, sickness, fire, floods, severe weather, acts of God, acts of Government, alteration or cancellation of scheduled air services, accidents to or failure of machinery or equipment or industrial action.

If we or our service providers are affected in any way by a force majeure event, we may in our discretion vary or cancel any itinerary or arrangement in relation to the tour as we consider necessary, without incurring any liability to you.

Each service provider is responsible for the part of the tour it conducts. Service providers are not our agents or employees and are not under our direct control. We therefore do not warrant the performance of any service provider. We do not accept, and you release us from, all liability for any injury, loss, damage, costs or expenses, including without limitation any property damage or personal injury, that you may suffer which arises out of any act or omission of a service provider or operator who provides services in connection with your tour. Any claim that you may have in relation to a service provider should be raised directly with that service provider.

You are responsible for any injury, loss, damage, costs or expenses arising through your own fault. You agree to indemnify us against all actions, proceedings, claims, demands, expenses and costs (including legal costs on a full indemnity basis and whether incurred by or awarded against us) as a result of, or arising in relation to, whether directly or indirectly, your participation in the tour or any act or omission by you in relation to the tour.

To the extent permitted by law, we do not accept any liability in contract, or otherwise for any injury, damage, loss (including consequential loss), delay, additional expenses or inconvenience caused directly or indirectly by the acts, omissions or default, whether negligent or otherwise, of third party providers over which we have no direct control.

Under circumstances where our liability cannot be excluded and where liability may be lawfully limited, such liability is limited to the remedies required of us under applicable law (including the Australian Consumer Law). This liability clause is subject to your rights under the Australian Consumer Law and nothing in these terms and conditions is intended to limit any rights you may have under the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth).
